Emily Ruby Scored Opened Post-Season Scoring for UCSBChico, CA - The Gauchos opened Western Women's Lacrosse League Championship play with a quarterfinal game vs. UC Davis and rode an early 7-0 lead to a 19-7 final score. Senior Emily Ruby (Davis, CA) scored the first two goals of the post-season and four other UCSB players scored in the seven goal run in the first twenty minutes of the game. Over the course of the game ten Gauchos nabbed at least a goal and ten players assisted on scoring plays. Junior Kelsey Seitz (San Diego, CA) led UCSB in scoring with 4 goals and 1 assist. The top ranked Gauchos dispatched another WDIA Top 25 Coaches Poll opponent with quick passing and good off-ball movement. The 23rd ranked Aggies succumbed to relentless defensive pressure and midfield trapping.

"We played well in a 9:00am game knowing we were facing the 8th seed," said first year head coach Paul Ramsey after the game. "It's easy to take a break in that situation or not get excited to play."

The Gauchos outshot UC Davis 36 to 20. Freshman goalie Diane Clow (Poway, CA) had 7 saves while the UCSB defense forced 6 Aggie shots wide. The win improved UCSB to 16-0 overall and 14-0 in the WDIA. It set up a 1:00pm semifinal game vs. 9th ranked UCLA. The Bruins were a 20-9 winner over San Diego State in their morning quarterfinal game. On the other side of the bracket #3 seed Cal Poly SLO beat #6 seed Chico State 11-4 and #2 seed Santa Clara overcame a slow start against #7 seed UC San Diego to win 17-3. That set up a showdown between Santa Clara and Cal Poly SLO in the other semifinal matchup.
