Diane Clow Had a Shutout Against PepperdineSanta Barbara, CA - Top ranked UCSB won their 15th straight game with a 17-0 shutout of visiting Pepperdine in the final home game for five seniors. The Gauchos outshot the Waves 35 to 6 and freshman Diane Clow (Poway, CA) earned the first shutout win in her college career with 5 saves. Senior captains Kristen Dickey (Davis, CA) and Kristyn Gherardi (San Mateo, CA) along with the other three seniors, Kathleen Cardoza (Davis, CA), Megan Puckett (Poway, CA) and Emily Ruby (Davis, CA) combined for 9 goals, 3 assists, 16 ground balls, 5 caused turnovers and 4 draw controls in their last game on the Pit. Defender Cardoza played in her first game of the season after a successful recovery from wrist surgery in January and finished with a goal, 4 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.

Ruby led all scorers with 3 goals and 2 assists while Puckett paced the midfield efforts with 5 ground balls, a caused turnover, a goal and 2 assists. It was another balanced scoring effort as 10 Gauchos scored goals. Every field player on the UCSB squad has scored a goal, although it took 15 games and the return to action by Cardoza for it to happen.

"It's great Kathleen is back in action and that it was in time for the senior game," said head coach Paul Ramsey after the game.

Cardoza patiently waited for clearance from her surgeon and worked at keeping herself part of the team by being at all the practices and games for the last three months for the opportunity to play again.

"We're a little deeper because Kathleen is back," added Ramsey.

The Gaucho improved their record to 15-0 overall and 13-0 in the WDIA while also cementing first place in the WWLL Central Division. UCSB is most likely going to receive the #1 seed for the upcoming WWLL Championships at Chico State April 19 - 20. Pepperdine dropped to 4-4 with a game coming up at USC April 16th to finish their regular season. The Waves have an outside shot at getting the 8th seed in the WWLL Championships if they can get past USC.
