on the 2008 UCSB schedule.

Baltimore, MD - UC Santa Barbara is ranked #1 in the U.S. Lacrosse Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates (WDIA) Coaches Poll that was released on Wednesday morning. The Gauchos, who are 7-0 WDIA and 8-0 overall, were a unanimous number one choice by all 13 coaches who get a vote. UCSB defeated the current #2, #3, #4 and #7 teams in their last six games on the way to getting ranked first.

The Gauchos undefeated record has a lot to do with having the top spot but their schedule has as much to do with it. Numerous teams are undefeated this early in the season but they haven't played the schedule UCSB has played. Every WDIA team the Gauchos have played is a WDIA Top 25 team. Strength of schedule and performance has put UCSB in the top spot.
