Gauchos Home Openers Looming Large
Feb. 7, 2008 Santa Barbara, CA - All three teams have home openers on Saturday in a triple header for UCSB women's lacrosse. The day starts off at 11am when the UCSB 'B' Team hosts UC Irvine. The UCSB 'A' Team faces Lindenwood University at 1pm and the UCSB 'C' Team plays Tricheck Lacrosse Club at 3pm. All three games are at the UCSB Lacrosse Field (aka the Pit).
UC Irvine dropped their home opener 20-7 at the hands of USC. The UCSB 'B' Team is fresh off a convincing 21-1 scrimmage at UC San Diego 'B'. In their only meeting last year the UCSB 'B' Team upended the Anteaters 16-4. Sixteenth ranked Lindenwood plays their first game of the season at sixth ranked UCLA on Friday night in an 8pm game. The Lions are the defending champions of the Central Plains Women's Lacrosse League (CPWLL) and qualified for the USL WDIA National Tournament in Denver last year. Lindenwood played the Bruins and lost 18-10 in that tournament game but has been bolstered by a pair of community college transfers from Catonsville Community College in Maryland. Jackie Noble and Kandee Schroeder helped Catonsville to the National Junior College Association national championshipin 2005 and a runner-up finish in 2006. This is the first meeting between Lindenwood and UCSB. The third ranked Gauchos (2-0) are coming off wins at UCSD and Claremont.
The UCSB 'C'/SBCC/Westmont Team ran all over University of San Diego last weekend 19-3 in a scrimmage at UCSD. However, Tricheck may be a tougher contest. It always depends on who makes the trip with this team but their roster is full of former NCAA Division I players. If enough of them come out on Saturday then the Gauchos will have their hands full.
