Jan. 21, 2008 Santa Barbara, CA - UCSB women's lacrosse will open the season by hosting three teams from the Element 5 Lacrosse Club on Sunday for campus tours and scrimmages. Element 5 is an elite level travel club for high school players in San Diego and carries three teams named Elite, Impact and Surge. The Elite team is coming off a three-peat championship at the Adrenalin Challenge Showcase Tournament January 12th & 13th. The club boasts 17 former members from the high school classes of 2004, 2005 and 2006 playing at NCAA Division I institutions. Players on the roster this year for the three Element 5 teams attend Bishops, Canyon Crest, Helix, La Jolla, Poway, St. Margaret's, Tesoro and Torrey Pines high schools.
The UCSB A, B and C teams are two weeks into training for the season and preparing for their openers at UC San Diego on February 2nd. The 'A' Team is coming off a 2007 campaign where it finished 18-7, ranked 3rd in the country out of 183 USL WDIA teams and advanced to the WDIA national championship semi-finals. The UCSB 'B' Team was 5-2 last year and advanced to the WWLL DII semi-finals. The UCSB 'C' Team is in it's first year of competition and also known as the UCSB 'C'/SBCC/Westmont team. The UCSB coaching staff and UCSB Rec Sports are mentoring the start up of teams at Santa Barbara City College and Westmont College. Efforts at developing new programs at these two neighbor institutions are being kick-started by providing a place for students at those schools to play underneath the UCSB Rec Sports umbrella.
