UCSB at Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament
Oct. 25, 2007 Waikiki, HI - The Gauchos are on the island of Oahu to play exhibition games as part of the Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament. UCSB has two games on Friday and four games on Saturday. The matches are shorter than a regulation 60 minute contest and consist of two 20 minute halves. The opener for the Gauchos is a 3pm matchup against Hokkaido University of the Kita-ku District in Sapporo, Japan. UCSB plays again right away in a 4pm game with Tokai University of the Hiratsuka-shi District in Kanagawa, Japan, on the outskirts of Tokyo.
UCSB plays four exhibition matches on Saturday. The Gauchos take on Victoria Tsunami of Vancouver, Canada at 9am, Eleu Lacrosse Club of Oahu at 11am, Kyushu University of the Higashi-Ku District in Fukuoka, Japan at 12 Noon and finish up with Team Breakaway at 2pm. It is the first meeting between UCSB and any of these teams.
Due to the UCSB travel schedule requiring a 12:30pm flight home on Sunday the Gauchos are not playing within the regular tournament brackets. The championship game is at 1:30pm on Sunday. UCSB couldn't stay to play in it if they advanced that far so tournament organizers scheduled the exhibition games outside of tournament play.
Lacrosse is not all UCSB is doing while they're on Oahu. Friday morning the team bus takes the Gauchos to the North Shore. While there the team will visit Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and eat lunch at Ted's Bakery & Deli. Free time the rest of the trip will be spent exploring Waikiki.
