UCSB WLAX File PhotoSanta Barbara, CA - UCSB came from behind to win in overtime in a WWLL quarterfinal match-up with the club from UC Davis to advance to a semifinal with number one seed UCLA. Eight different Gauchos scored a goal apiece for a UCSB 8-7 extra time win over the Aggies. Senior Madison Sabbag (Mt. View, CA) scored the winning goal for UCSB on an unassisted play dodging from behind the cage.

The Gauchos outshot the Aggies 27 to 11 but only put 20 shots on goal. Couple that with UC Davis goalie Natalie Dowd (Sacramento, CA) going from saving 45.5% all season to 60% in this game and UCSB had to work hard to beat a team in overtime they'd outscored 16-10 while clearing the bench just one week ago. Better placement on shots by UCSB and even the hot Dowd wouldn't have carried the Aggies to the overtime. Meanwhile UC Davis scored seven goals on eleven shots and UCSB never breathed easy.

"I'm glad we got out of that one," said UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey. "We have a lot of players who can get free to shoot the ball and they're shooting from good places but at the end of the day it comes down to finishing and we need to do that better."

Lefty sophomore Hannah Frield (Orinda, CA) had two goals and two assists for the Aggies but other than that it was one goal apiece for five other UC Davis players, similar spread of scoring as the Gauchos.

UCSB improved to 11-4 overall but more importantly advances to the semifinal. The Aggies dropped to 5-6 and play University of San Diego in the WWLL fifth place game on Sunday.
