Gauchos Fall Just Short Against Undefeated Colorado StateFeb. 13, 2016 Santa Barbara, CA - UCSB made a run at a six goal halftime deficit in a Santa Barbara Shootout match-up with undefeated Colorado State University but fell just short at the end. Trailing 3-9 at halftime the Gauchos came out on fire and scored five unanswered goals to get to within a goal of getting to overtime. After a free position shot gave the Rams their only goal of the second half they had a little breathing room until junior Meghana Vijayraghavan (Pleasanton, CA) assisted senior Madison Sabbag (Mt. View, CA) and it was back to a one goal game with 8 minutes remaining. UCSB outshot Colorado State 4-0 in the final 8 minutes but were turned away from getting the game into overtime by three CSU goalie saves and one defensive block of a nice look at the cage. The slow start affected the Gauchos for the second time against a good team after a 3-0 start to the season. However, the response to it by everyone involved was promising. UCSB worked harder when down by six goals and the sideline became more boisterous. It was also unlike the almost come-back after a slow start against Michigan. In that one the Wolverines increased their two goal margin at the end when the Gauchos tried to press out and create turnovers. In this game UCSB were able to press out and defend and create turnovers. UCSB falls to 3-2 and hosts University of Washington on Sunday. Colorado State improved to 4-0 and next faces Cal Poly SLO on Sunday.
