Fourth Ranked Michigan Wins 14-8 At UCSBBox Score
Feb. 11, 2016
Santa Barbara, CA - UCSB hosted defending national champion University of Michigan in the opening game of the 28th Annual Santa Barbara Shootout. The Wolverines controlled the draw and the first half to have a 6-3 lead at the intermission. The Gauchos made a run in the second half and pulled to within two goals at 10-8 with 9 minutes remaining on an unassisted goal by senior Kelsey Trepa (San Diego, CA). Michigan then took off on a four goal run to finish the game and win 14-8.
The Gauchos started slow and were down by four goals twice in the first half before scoring the final first half goal to be down three. Michigan winning 7 of 10 draw controls in the first half had a lot to do with their fast start. UCSB shot 61.5% on offense but were unable to generate enough shots on goal and the Wolverines outshot them 22-13. Freshman Hollie Pelland (San Diego, CA) led UCSB in scoring with four goals, all of them coming in the second half. Ashley Bonnoitt (Cincinnati, OH) led Michigan with 5 goals and 1 assist.
UCSB drops to 3-1 overall while the Wolverines improved to 2-0. The Santa Barbara Shootout continues Friday morning with a round of 10:00am games at UCSB, SBCC and San Marcos High School.
