Monster First Half For UCSB Gets Win At ASU

UCSB After ASU

Tempe, AZ - The Gauchos started fast and led 6-1 a little over ten minutes into the game,11-5 at halftime and partway through the second half 15-5 before finishing with everyone getting in during a game at Arizona State. The final score was 15-8 and by the end of the sixty mintues all twenty-four UCSB players dressed were involved in the action, including all three goalies. UCSB was missing senior attacker Madison Sabbag (Palo Alto, CA) for both their games this weekend but should have her back for their home opener with USC on February 6th. 

The Gauchos scored the first goal 46 seconds into the game senior Kelsey Trepa (San Marcos, CA) assisted freshman Hollie Pelland (San Diego, CA). After an ASU goal UCSB went on a five goal run over eight minutes to lead 6-1. Six Gauchos were in on the scoring.Pelland led all goal scorers with 4 goals while Trepa led in points with 2 goals and 3 assists. UCSB had 21 ground balls and won 13 out of 25 draw controls. Freshman Rachael Shaw (San Ramon, CA) and junior Meghana Vijayraghavan (Pleasanton, CA) had 4 draw conrols each.

Sophomore Cyrena Malkowski (Lake Forest, CA) played the first 30 minutes in goal and had 4 saves, senior Morgan Ryan (Salt Lake City, UT) played the first 15 minutes of the second half and had 2 saves and sophomore Kaitlyn Pike (Seahom, MI) finished the game and had 4 saves.

UCSB improved to 2-0 while the Sun Devils dropped to 0-1. The Gauchos next face the club from USC in a 12:00pm game on Saturday, February 6th. The game will be at the UCSB Recreation Center sports complex turf.
