Cal Poly at UCSBSanta Barbara, CA - Playing their second exhibition game in two days the Gauchos sprinted out to a 9-1 lead over Cal Poly SLO in the first half of a two 22 minute running clock halves affair at the UCSB Recreation Center Sports Complex. UCSB used thirty-one players in the short contest, working three goalies into the game along with 29 field players. Even with the myriad of players running off and on it looked mostly organized on the part of UCSB and nine of the fourteen Gaucho goals were assisted. An amazing twelve UCSB players scored a goal or had an assist.

"Twelve players involved in fourteen goals is a pretty high ratio," said UCSB Head Coach Paul Ramsey after he saw the score sheet.  "We can get to truly selfless play here with that kind of sharing."

UCSB faced the Mustangs on a short turn-around after falling 13-14 in overtime in a full length game last night to the New Zealand National Team in an international exhibition game. Being able to run the field and play up tempo after a long hard game is promising for UCSB. Still, the Gauchos will need to find strong second halves to match their first halves to be successful over the long haul.

UCSB takes a weekend off before resuming training on Monday. The next contest for the Gauchos will be their alumni in the annual UCSB Lacrosse Alumni game on Saturday, November 7th.
