UCSB WLAX File PhotoSanta Barbara, CA - The Gauchos used a five goal run in the second half to put away Arizona State University in UCSB Harder Stadium on Senior Day. The young UCSB squad won 13-6 over the visiting Sun Devils. Lone senior Molly Meek (Los Angeles, CA) scored a goal, had 3 ground balls and 1 caused turnover in the team effort. Six other UCSB players were also in on the scoring and freshman goalie Kaitlyn Pike (Seaholm, MI) got the win with 6 saves on 12 shots against her for 50%.

UCSB Junior Madison Sabbag (Mt. View, CA) led all scorers with 4 goals and 2 assists while also picking up 3 ground balls, causing 2 ASU turnovers and getting a draw control. Sabbag's assist to sophomore Maddy Montague (Aliso Viejo, CA) at the 10:18 mark in the second half was the junior's 50th point on the season. With two goal scored before the game ended Sabbag improved her tally to 52 points coming from 31 goals and 21 assists.

ASU scored the first goal on a free position shot 2:42 into the game. The Gauchos scored four goals over eleven minutes to take a 4-1 lead and then outscored ASU 3-2 the rest of the half to lead 7-3 at halftime. Five different players contributed the seven first half goals.  It looked to be more interesting when UCSB came out of halftime sluggish compared to the Sun Devils. ASU scored the first two goals of the second half to close it to 7-5 just five minutes into the second frame. That's when UCSB went on their five goal run to put it away. Over the last 25 minutes of the game the Gauchos outscored ASU 6-1.

UCSB improved to 9-7 overall with the win and 6-4 in conference play. ASU dropped to 3-10, 1-6. Both teams await word from the Western Women's Lacrosse League about invites and seedings for the WWLL Championship Tournament. The annual three division event is April 18th & 19th at UC San Diego.  The Gauchos are involved in a three-way tie in the results for WWLL Division One. UCSB beat SDSU who beat Arizona who beat UCSB is the three-way. The WWLL Championships Committee will have to break that tie before seeding.
