Gauchos Outshoot Aggies 23-19 But Fall To UC Davis

Davis, CA - UCSB took an undefeated road record north to play the club at UC Davis and outshot the Aggies 23-19 but fell 8-12. UC Davis was led by senior goal keeper Amy Corstorphine (Alamo, CA) and her 13 saves. The Aggies scored first and UCSB responded with two goals to take a 2-1 lead and then a 4-3 lead. That was the last time the Gauchos led although after falling behind 5-4 UCSB tied it 5-5 on a Madison Sabbag (Mt. View, CA) pass to sophomore Meghana Vijayraghavan (Pleasanton, CA) with about six minutes remaining in the first half.  UC Davis scored the last goal of the half to lead 6-5 at halftime.

The Gauchos won the first draw of the second half and took the first shot but it was saved by Corstorphine. The Aggies used that possession to score and then scored again to take a 8-5 lead only two minutes into the second half. Play was even after that for the next 27 minutes, with both teams scoring 3 goals apiece, until senior Aggie Chloe Hull (Lafayette, CA) scored with 15 seconds left for the final four goal margin. Three UCSB players scored two goals apiece. Sophomores Maddy Montague (Aliso Viejo, CA), Melissa Hsu (Danville, CA) and Vijayraghavan combined for six goals for the Gauchos. Freshman Kaitlyn Pike (Seaholm, MI) had seven saves for UCSB.

The Gauchos dropped to 7-6 overall while UC Davis improved to 4-6 overall. UCSB continues their road trip with a stop in the Bay Area to play the club frrom UC Berkeley. The Aggies concluded the regular season and await word from the Western Women's Lacrosse League about a spot in the WWLL Championship Tournament at UC San Diego April 18th - 19th.
