Gauchos Top Aggies 12-6Apr. 6, 2014 Santa Barbara, CA - UCSB held the club from UC Davis to a single second half goal enroute to winning 12-6 at the Recreation Center Sports Complex. The score was 6-5 in favor the Gauchos at halftime and then UCSB outscored the Aggies 6-1 in the second half. The Gauchos outshot UC Davis 23-15 but it was the defense clamping down with the best team effort to date this season that is the story of the day. The defense put the Gauchos in position to outscore the Aggies 6-0 over the final 15 minutes. Senior goal keeper Megan Hughes (Tustin, CA) had 7 saves with 5 of them coming in the second half. Three UCSB players scored three goals apiece. Senior Katie Hubbert (San Jose, CA), sophomore Amanda Shoemkaer (Poway, CA) and freshman Claire Wilson (Healdsburg, CA) each had a hat trick. Hubbert added an assist to tie teammate Lindsay Alex (Santa Ana, CA) with four points in the game. Alex scored a goal and assisted on 3 goals for four points while junior Lori Marchildon (Haddonfield, NJ) had 2 assists. The Aggies scored the first goal of the second half to tie the game 6-6 but that was it for their offense while UCSB scored four straight assisted goals. When Alex fed senior Blair Evans with 13 minutes left in the game it put UCSB up 10-6. From there Wilson pinged the top right corner on a free position shot with nine minutes remaining and then Hubbert scored unassisted with three minutes remaining to cap off the six goal run that won the game.
