Georgia Holds Off UCSBFeb. 14, 2014 Santa Barbara, CA - In the second game of the Santa Barbara Shootout for both teams 3rd ranked University of Georgia prevailed over UCSB 10-7. A second Shootout game tied at halftime did not go the way of the Gauchos. UCSB had a 4-2 lead with four minutes remaining in the first half but the Bulldogs notched two quick goals in less than 2 minutes to tie it before halftime. Georgia then scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 7-4 lead. The Gauchos rallied and pulled within one score on two goals by Blair Evans (Salinas, CA) and one by Amanda Shoemaker (San Diego, CA) to one goal by Georgia over about a five minute period. The game came to life with the score 8-7 in favor of the Bulldogs with 10 minutes remaining. Georgia then scored two goals in two minutes and followed up by running down a lot of the clock. UCSB managed to take the ball away once during the stall and get down onto offense but did not score and when Georgia got the ball back they finished the game with the ball. Draw controls again proved to be a bit of an issue with Georgia earning 12 of 19 to have 5 more possessions than UCSB. UCSB dropped to 2-2 overall while Georgia improved to 5-0. The Gauchos next face defending national champion Colorado State in a 3:00pm game on Saturday. The Bulldogs will take on Brigham Young University in their Saturday Shootout game.
