UCSB Doubles Up Mustangs 14-7Nov. 9, 2013 Santa Barbara, CA - The Gauchos hosted defending WWLL Champion Cal Poly SLO in the last fall ball scrimmage for both teams and won 14-7 after leading 6-4 at halftime. Both teams worked reserves in liberally during play on the UCSB Recreation Center Sports Complex turf. UCSB went with a probable starting line-up the first ten minutes of each half but worked substitutes in one or two at a time until all ten reserves were on the field. The first quarter of the game was low scoring. There were no goals for the first 7 minutes and at about 10 minutes into the game it was tied 2-2 with play even both ways. The two teams traded goals to 3-3 before the Gauchos finished the first half ourscoring Cal Poly 2-1 to lead 6-4. It seemed anyone's game with the mostly even play but the first 15 minutes of the second half broke it open for UCSB. At one point the Gauchos led 12-6 before finishing the game with 9 freshmen and 2 sophomores on the field. That group outscored an equally young set of Mustangs 2-1 for the final 14-7 margin. The regular season begins for UCSB when they travel to NCAA DIII Chapman University for a January 25th pre-season scrimmage. The Gauchos open up officially at University of Arizona on February 8th.
