Bruins Finish Season Strong at WWLL ChampionshipsApr. 21, 2013 The Bruins finished off the season with a solid showing at WWLL Championships this weekend in Santa Barbara, going 2-1 on the weekend. After regular season play, UCLA was seeded 8th and slotted to face number 1 seeded Santa Clara in the quarterfinal match-up on Saturday. The Bruins came out strong and kept pace with the Broncos for a 5-5 game at halftime. For much of the second half, the Bruins were able to keep pace with the Broncos, only down 9-8 with 10 minutes to play. However, Santa Clara was able to control the last two draws, ultimately putting the game out of reach. Later in the day, UCLA faced 4th seeed San Diego State coming out with a narrow 14-13 win to advance to the 5th place game. On Sunday, the Bruins faced a rematch against University of Arizona. Earlier in the season, the Bruins lost a tough game against the Wildcats 18-16. But this time the Bruins would come out on top, turning a 6-4 halftime lead into a 17-10 victory. An all around team effort powered the Bruins through the weekend, and ultimately to a 5th place finish.
