teamUCLA faced tough competition throughout the weekend at the Santa Barbara Shootout.  Unforced turnovers dictated the results of the first two games against Michigan and Georgia, where the Bruins combined for 38 turnovers as a team.

UCLA fell behind early in a tough opening loss against Michigan 17-6, freshman midfielder Sam Fletcher led UCLA with 3 goals.  Senior Margaret Nettleton and sophomore Molly Tracy combined for 11 groundballs and 5 caused turnovers in the loss.

The Bruins kept pace with the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs through the first half, tying the score at 5-5 with 8 minutes remaining.  Georgia pulled away at the end of the half with three consecutive goals to lead 8-5 at the break.  UCLA was unable to continue its strong play through the second half, ultimately falling behind 14-7.  Fletcher led the Bruin offense once again, finishing with 5 points (4 goals, 1 assist).

UCLA finished the weekend strong with a commanding second half against Washington to win 15-6.  After a close first half, with the score tied 6-6, the Bruins took control as a team to put the game away for good.  High defensive pressure forced Washington to take poor shots and turn the ball over during the second half shutout.  Junior goalie Martine Erhlich led the defense, stopping all 8 of the Huskies second half shots and finished the game with 12 saves.  Tracy was key in the offensive transition, collecting 6 ground balls and 2 draw controls to help drive the Bruin attack.  Junior Courtney Randall led UCLA with 5 goals, while freshman midfielder Luzdelia Caballero added 3 more.
