Bruins Fall Late in Season OpenerFeb. 8, 2013 The Bruins got out to a quick start leading 5-1 just seven minutes into the game. UCLA pushed the lead to 8-3 midway through the first half. Arizona came back to bring the score to 9-6 at halftime. The Bruins scored 7 of their 9 first half goals on free position shots off of Arizona fouls. In the second half, Arizona tied the score at 10-10 before the Bruins responded pushing the score to 15-12 with 7:09 left in the game. Arizona scored 6 of the games last goals to win 18-16. Junior attacker Courtney Randall led the Bruins with 6 goals, while freshman midfielder Sam Fletcher chipped in 4 goals and an assist. Senior Margaret Nettleton was a force in the midfield, finishing with 5 draw controls, 4 ground balls, and 4 caused turnovers. Junior goalie Martine Ehrlich led the defense with 14 saves and a ground ball. The Bruins are off for two weeks when they travel to compete at the Santa Barbara Shootout February 15-17.
