UCLA Overpowers USC With Strong Second Half On Senior DayApr. 15, 2012 The USC Trojans came out of the gates on fire to take an early 5-4 lead over the No. 7 Bruins on Saturday in their final match of the regular season. After a shaky start, UCLA scored the last 3 goals of the half to take a 7-5 lead going into the break. The Bruins took control in the second period of play, causing 11 Trojan turnovers and outscoring their cross-town rivals 13-4. In the 20-9 victory, UCLA out-shot USC 41-14, won 17 of 31 draw controls, and had eight different players with offensive points. It truly was a day to celebrate the team's eight four-year seniors in their final home game at UCLA. Morgan Oberstein and Allie Simpson led the scoring front with 7 points each. Isabel Angell picked up 6 ground ball controls and 2 caused turnovers, while Allie Roe tallied 2 goals, 3 caused turnovers, and 3 draw controls. Devon Comito and Michelle Rice were consistently strong for the Bruin defense, while Antoinette Brou and Amanda Martin added 4 points on the offensive end. The Bruins will spend this week preparing for their league's championship tournament, where they will likely earn a top 2 seed after finishing the season 7-1 against WWLL competition. This year's tournament will be held at UC-Santa Barbara with first round games starting at 10AM on Saturday. The complete championship field will be announced Monday evening.
Congratulations to all of the seniors on their incredible lacrosse careers at UCLA: Isabel Angell, Antoinette Brou, Amanda Martin, Anna Musky-Goldwynn, Morgan Oberstein, Michelle Rice, Allie Roe, Allie Simpson, and Devon Comito.
Congratulations also goes out to the UCLA 'B' team, who qualified for the WWLL 'B' Division tournament as one of the top four teams this season. They will compete this Saturday and Sunday in Santa Barbara.
