Bruins 2-0 After Win Over 8th Ranked Cal PolyFeb. 12, 2012 UCLA started their road game Saturday on fire, going up 4-0 just nine minutes into the first half. The Cal Poly Mustangs fought back, bringing the score at halftime to a tight 5-3, with the Bruins leading. The Bruins' defense dominated play, holding the Mustangs to just 7 shots on goal in the final 30 minutes, 5 of which were saved by goalie Devon Comito. Two turnovers by Comito resulted in Cal Poly's only goals of the second half. Seniors Morgan Oberstein and Allie Simpson led the Bruin offense with 6 points each. Midfielder Allie Roe was a force to be reckoned with in the midfield, where she won 7 of the game's total 19 draw controls. Junior Margaret Nettleton put strong pressure on in the midfield with 3 caused turnovers and 5 ground ball controls. On the defensive end, junior Allie Steinberg had 2 caused turnovers and 4 ground ball controls on her way to holding Cal Poly's leading attacker scoreless. Saturday's win puts UCLA at 2-0 in overall WCLA play, and 1-0 in the WWLL Division 1 Central. Next up, the Bruins travel to Santa Barbara where they will face Michigan State on Friday evening, followed by 11th ranked Georgia and University of Oregon over the weekend.
