The Bruins came out strong against Arizona State on February 5 in their home opener, holding the Wildcats scoreless for the first 14:00 of the half. After a 10-3 lead at halftime, UCLA continued to lay on the pressure causing 13 total turnovers and winning 16 of 26 draw controls over the course of the game.

Junior midfielder, Devon Comito, gave a stellar performance in her first league game in goal for the Bruins with 15 saves. Junior attacker, Morgan Oberstein and junior midfielder, Antoinette Brou contributed 4 goals a piece to the 18-7 victory. Sophomore Allie Steinberg led the defense with 1 draw control, 2 ground ball controls and 2 caused turnovers.

In their first WWLL Central contest this season, the Bruins suffered a tough loss at the hands of a talented UCSB team. Both teams came out of the gates firing, with the Gauchos leading 4-3 after the first 15:00. The game continued to stay close until the last 2 minutes of the first half, during which UCSB scored 3 quick goals off the draw, leaving the Bruins at an 11-6 deficit leading into halftime.

After building a 13-7 lead only 2:00 into the second half, the Gauchos smartly spread out their offense and held possession on their end. With 22:00 left on the clock, the Bruins opened up their usually tight defense into full-pressure in an attempt to break the stall. While their heightened pressure caused several Gaucho mistakes, the Bruins were not able to capitalize on their possessions, ultimately finishing only 10 of 31 shots on UCSB goalie, Jeni Centner.

The exhausted UCLA defense began to lose steam, and UCSB took full advantage, outscoring the Bruins 5-2 in the final 10 minutes of the game. Oberstein led the UCLA offense with 4 goals, while sophomore midfielder, Margaret Nettleton did her part contributing 2 goals, 3 caused turnovers, and 2 draw controls to the 21-10 loss.

UCLA is 1-1 leading into this weekend's Santa Barbara Shootout, where they'll face out of league competition in the form of last year's national champions, Colorado State, Pre-season #11 Florida, and #15 Texas.

UCLA 'B' also finished their first two games of the season with a 1-1 record. They overpowered UCSD 'B' 14-5 on February 6, and then faced a strong UCSB 'B' team on February 13 in a 8-15 loss. UCLA 'B' will take on UC Davis 'B' and Cal Poly 'B' at the Santa Barbara Shootout this weekend.
