Bruins Visit the Rockies Post-Spring BreakAfter two weeks off due to finals and spring break, the Bruins came back into the regular season with a trip to the Rocky Mountain Shootout. UCLA took on four tough WDIA opponents last weekend in Colorado, starting with an overtime nail biter on Friday night against #7 Brigham Young. Eight Bruins put points on the board, including a hat trick from captain Hayley Wheeler, for a final score of 10-11. The effort fell just short in overtime, where a goal in the last :30 of the game from BYU cemented the win for the Cougars. Apr. 6, 2010 Next, the Bruins took on Colorado State on the Rams' home turf. In a 7-12 loss, UCLA could not control the draws, and the lack of possession was evident in the final score. With only 6 draw controls over the course of the game, the Bruins midfield struggles kept the Rams on top for most of the game. Later in the day, UCLA faced a WDIA Division 2 opponent in Denver U.'s club team, who they dominated 17-4. The Bruins traveled to Boulder for their last game of the weekend on Sunday versus #10 Colorado. UCLA led most of the first, but the second half proved to be a much more back and forth game. After senior captain, Lauren Ariniello, was dealt a second yellow card late in the first half for a dangerous shot follow through, the goal was taken away and she was benched for the remainder. It was a tied game four different times in the second half, and the Bruins came up short yet again, with a tight 14-15 loss in regulation. Next up, the Bruins face cross-town rivals, the #24 USC Trojans back at home. 7PM at UCLA, this Wednesday night.
