Bruins Unable to Hang On Against Cal PolyFeb. 8, 2014 After falling quickly behind 5-0 to open the game, the Bruins came back with 5 straight goals to head into halftime tied. The strong offensive play continued at the start of the second half, with midfielders Sam Fletcher and Kristin Alexander netting 5 more goals off quick ball movement against the Cal Poly zone. Midway through the second half, the Mustangs mounted a comeback scoring the 7 consecutive goals to knot the score at 13 all. In the first two overtime periods, both teams had opportunities to put the game away, but were unable to connect. In the first sudden victory period, Cal Poly was able to create a look in transition and finish, winning 14-13. The Bruins were led by the efforts of midfielders Fletcher (10 DC, 10 GB), Alexander (6 G), and Molly Tracy (4 DC, 5 GB, 4 CTO). Senior Martine Ehrlich played well, picking up 18 saves on the day. The 'B' team picked up a 15-10 win over Cal Poly with junior attacker LeeAnn Patrick totaling 7 points off 4 goals and 3 assists. Freshman attacker Blake Egozi added 4 goals in a strong team win for the Bruins. Both teams will travel to the Santa Barbara Shootout next weekend to face tough national competition.
