SAN MARCOS -  The Texas State Bobcats men's lacrosse teamwon their home opener against Oklahoma this weekend in the showcase game for the 2nd annual I-35 Showdown. The weather tested Bobcats were unaffected by the rain and near freezing temperatures as they controlled the game throughout, winning by a score of 14 to 5. Key contributors included Jeremy DiGiovanni who tallied 4 goals, Bucky Desadier with a hat trick, and the always loyal Bobcat fans who despite the weather came out roaring, playing a pivotal part in the Bobcat victory.

The Sooners were first on the board after an extra man opportunity early in the first, but it was all Bobcats from that point on. At the end of one, the score was 2-1 in Texas State’s favor thanks to a goal apiece from Captains Liam Kelly and DiGiovanni. The 2nd quarter was a blitz from the Bobcats, putting in 5 unanswered goals. Offensive contributors include faceoff specialist Mack Starnes who dominated the faceoff X winning over 70 percent of the draws, and Seniors Alex Garbelotti and Robbie Alvarado, who both registered goals in the 2nd quarter. Score at the half was 7-1 in favor of State.

In the 2nd half the Bobcat offense kept rolling, the defense stayed composed, and Goalie AJ Anderson continued to play at an extremely high level. The Bobcats this season have failed to start strong coming out of the half, but Saturday this was no longer the case as Jeremy DiGiovanni and freshman Elliott Smith piled on goals extending the lead to 10-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Texas State did not let their foot off the pedal in the 4th, with rookie Aaron Kuntz getting a goal, and Captain Bucky Desadier shaking defenders left and right to put the last two goals of the game in, and seal the victory for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats are back in action at home on Monday, March 9th to face nationally ranked Virginia Tech at 8pm.
