Texas Tech University :  10

University of North Texas :  9

The Texas Tech Men's Lacrosse team advanced to the LSA Final Four with a big first round playoff win over divisional rival University of North Texas. The Red Raiders won Saturday April 17th in Southlake, TX 10-9 over the hungry-for-revenge Mean Green. The North Divisonal Playoff Game was a tightly contested battle that came down to the closing seconds.

Texas Tech was paced by the attack unit of Willie Sterner, Neil Gordon and Preston Taber on offense. Senior Willie Sterner grabbed the "Golden Sombrero" with a strong 4 goal performance. Sophomore Neil Gordon had 2 goals, 2 assists and Freshman Preston Taber had 2 goals and 1 assist himself. Juniors Mason Hebert & Patrick Syring also tallied one goal each.

Tech's defense looked sharp for the second week in a row against a talented UNT offense. Bart Jameson played a big game in goal, just like he has all season with 12 saves on 21 shots. The close defense was instrumental in the Raiders success over the weekend. Matt Bickham, Gavin Carr, and Spencer Nolan each made big plays all game. Bickham had the duty, for the second week in a row, of matching up with LSA points leader Philip Johnson, UNT's biggest offensive threat. And for the second week in a row, Bickham prevailed, frustrating Johnson throughout the game and holding him to only 1 point. Carr shined in the transition and ground ball game and showed his tenacity on defense. 4-year starter Spencer Nolan had numerous take-away checks and started many fast breaks with the turnovers he caused. LSM's Justin Castle and Michael Wayne looked great throughout the game dominating the field in between the lines. Wayne's interception with seconds left in the game secured a Tech victory.

The Red Raiders travel to Austin, TX this weekend (April 24-25) for a rematch against the #1 seeded University of Texas. The game will be played in Saturday at Westlake HS Stadium @ 12:30 PM. The team look to get revenge from an 11-5 loss to the Longhorns earlier this season.

If they advance, the team will play the winner of Texas State & SMU (played @ 3:30 PM on Saturday) at the same stadium Sunday in the LSA Championship @ 3:30 PM.
