Red Raiders to Face Oklahoma in Halloween Showcase

The North Texas chapter of US Lacrosse has announced that the University of Oklahoma Men's lacrosse team will meet the Men's team from Texas Tech University in conjunction with the Halloween Shootout youth and high school tournament on Saturday October 25, 2008. The game will be played at Clark athletic fields just south of John Clark Stadium in Plano at 7:00pm. Admission is free. Both teams are members of the Lone Star Alliance (LSA) which is composed of twenty college lacrosse teams from Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. The Lone Star Alliance is one of ten conferences nationally that play under the governance of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA).
Both teams have strong ties to North Texas high school lacrosse programs with many local alumni playing for both teams. The game was arranged by Plano Senior High graduates Matt Moran of the Sooner's and the Red Raider's Bryce Wolf, both Presidents of their respective programs. In addition to being team President, Moran is also a Sooner team captain and defensive MVP, Wolf is the Red Raider offensive MVP and a third team All-American selection. Other local schools represented on the team rosters include Plano West, Coppell, St Marks, Highland Park, Southlake, Allen, Hillcrest and Jesuit.
Texas Tech, coached by Andrew Widmer has a strong winning tradition going back to the 1983 season. They won the LSA championship as recently as 2005 and finished the 2008 spring season at 9 – 6. Oklahoma, coached by Max Dugan completed their third season of competition last spring with an 8 -6 record. Last spring the Texas Tech/OU game came down to one goal in which the Red Raiders emerged with a victory by a score of 14 – 13.
