College Station, TX -- Over 40 high school lacrosse teams migrated to the fields of Penberthy on Saturday to compete in the 2008 Aggieland Classic Tournament. After a long day of facilitating a successful tournament, the Aggies geared up for the traditional showcase game versus the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Tech has historically been a formidable obstacle for A&M and there was great anticipation building towards the start of the game.
The competition began with both teams trading goals. The Aggies followed by putting four straight shots past the Red Raiders net-minder. After capitalizing on several man-up opportunities in the first half, A&M headed into halftime with a 13-4 lead.
A&M showed little sign of letting up in the third, posting a five goal quarter and holding the talented Texas Tech offense scoreless. The difference maker in the contest was the play in between the boxes. Texas A&M out-hustled Tech and tallied twice as many ground balls picking up 39 to their 18. A&M was able to coast to their third consecutive victory in the fourth quarter and won by a score of 23-9.
The Aggies displayed a balanced scoring offense tallying 12 goals from the attack and 11 goals from the midfield. A&M’s goalkeeper Jason Jolly had an incredible game posting a save percentage of 72.2% against 18 shots in his 50 minutes of play.
