Opening WeekendJan. 29, 2007 This Red Raiders will begin thier 2007 season this weekend, February 3rd and 4th, against Southern Methodist University at 11:00AM. The SMU/Tech game has become an unofficial rivalry match for both squads. Over the past few seasons, the match has proved to be a close competition for both teams. This season, SMU boasts a large 50 man roster, despite being a relatively young group. SMU defeated Baylor in its first match-up for the 2007 season, 9-6. The Mustangs will bring a great challenge to the young and talented Red Raider team, who looks to use this game to kick off thier 2007 drive to the LSA Championship. The Red Raider squad is coming into this season after a heartbreaking loss to Texas to end the 2006 season.
On Sunday Tech will face off against Oklahoma, who was recently admitted into the A Division of the Lone Star Alliance. Tech defeated OU last season, 20-2 in Stillwater, OK. The two teams last met at the Tillar Tournament in Manhattan, KS, where Tech had a narrow victory over the Sooners. The Red Raiders look to return to thier success over the Sooners in last years game. Personnel issues may have played a factor in the narrow victory over the Sooners in Kansas, but the Red Raiders have returned to full strength, and hope that Sunday's game will reflect the hard work and dedication that the team has put in since the tournament in Kansas. Sunday's face-off will be at 11:00AM.
Both games will be played at Texas Tech University's West Rec Fields. For directions, please see the Facilities page. Fans are asked to come support the Red Raiders in the first two of four total home games for the season. As a reminder, please note that no alcoholic beverages are permitted on Texas Tech campus, so please plan accordingly.
