Alumni Game A Great Success!

The 2006 Red Raider Alumni Classic went off without a hitch, as more than 20 Alumni players showed up for the game.

In front of a large crowd, the Red Raiders took on thier greatest rival; themselves! Well, not exactly. Red Raiders of seasons past showed up in full force Sunday to prove they weren't too old to hang with the young blood of the team. Former stand-out players such as Stu Shaw, Zach Kurzweil and Joey Gentry came with great motivation to stand thier ground in front of the home crowd.

The alumni team drew first blood and quickly took the lead of the game. Key goals from Stu Shaw and Joey Gentry began the day for the alumni. The Red Raiders were quick to respond with goals from Ben Brenners, Bryce Wolf and Clayton Schneider. The Red Raiders completely dominated the 2nd quarter and left the Alumni flat-footed, gasping for air.

Halftime gave a much needed rest to the Alumni squad as they quickly closed most of the gap in the 3rd quarter. A talented but young Red Raider team held tight, despite the Alumni team taking the lead. Freshman defenseman Mark Meyer established his presence in a stand-out coma slide takedown on former 1st team LSA midfielder Stu Shaw. Senior attackmen Ted Keenan kept the Alumni defense in check, giving great shots and taking control of the offense.

Despite the Red Raiders best efforts, the Alumni pulled out with a two-goal lead which would last until the end of the game. Zach Kurzweil noted that."solid ball control towards the latter part of the 4th quarter," could attribute to thier victory over the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech Lacrosse would like to thank all who came out to attend or participate in the game. The 2006 Red Raider Alumni Classic will be a game to be remembered.

The Red Raiders will now gear up to participate in the 2006 Tillar Classic in Manhattan, KS on Saturday, November 4th. Complete tournament schedule will be posted when available.
