Why #22

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Apr. 12, 2019

This season will start a new cultural change to Spring Lake Lacrosse throughout the entire organization. The number "22" will be prominently displayed on our youth pinnies above the heart at the 3/4 levels, on the helmets from 5/6 through the high school teams, and honored with a field presence at the Boys Varsity level.

Why #22?

Jarred Coleman, a former player and coach with the Spring Lake Lacrosse Organization, passed away last summer at the age of 22 from injuries due to a horrific car crash that also claimed his grandparents. While the loss of life at such a young age is difficult to understand, those that knew Jarred...teammates, coaches, youth players...are devastated.

While our program has been fortunate to receive the gift of time and effort from former players throughout the years, Jarred was truly a pioneer of giving back. During his career at Spring Lake, it was not uncommon for Jarred to pick up youth players (getting them away from video games!) and take them for training sessions to work on their game during the off season. This year's Senior Class was the initial beneficiary of Jarred's kindness and passion for giving back to the lacrosse community. Many of the athletes currently in our organization have either been coached by Jarred or at some point have witnessed his infectious passion, incredible smile and words of support for Spring Lake Lacrosse players.

As a teammate, it would be difficult to find a more supportive lax bro than Jarred. He was loved by everyone who had the fortune to have met him.

Jarred wore the number 22 during his high school career at Spring Lake. A new tradition was started this season for the Varsity Boys Team. Each year moving forward, the coaching staff lead by Coach Doug Sharp, will choose a player to wear number 22 as a way to honor Jarred's memory.

This season, the staff chose Dominik Molotky (Class of 2019) to represent the program both on and off the field while wearing number 22.

On May 15, Spring Lake will be playing against Forest Hills Eastern. Jarred's brother Ethan will be playing against the Lakers and we will be honoring Jarred on that special night by welcoming his parents Kelly and Ron back to the Spring Lake Lacrosse Stadium (The 'Yard). Let's make this a night worthy of Jarred's memory and show our love by filling the stands with 301 Spring Lake lacrosse players as well as their parents and friends!!

Please share this story with your athletes, family, friends and fans as we continue to honor Jarred Coleman with the loving display of #22!

Best Regards,

Myron Molotky
