SOU Hosts AlumniNov. 7, 2011 The current SOU Men's Lacrosse Team hosted the SOU Alumni Team this past Saturday. The current team struck first with a goal by 5th year Sr. Captain Sean McQuown. The "GodFather" of SOU Lacrosse Kyle Chrisman answered back for the Alumni splitting the current teams defense avoiding two slides. So. Attack #44 Justin Cooper answered for the present team on an assist from McQuown. The Godfather would answer again for the Alumni knotting the game at 2. Grad. student and captain, #2 Pat Verdun, would answer for SOU on another assist from McQuown. Again, the Alumni held strong by answering with a familiar combination of Alex White finding an open Tyler Baumann to tie the game at 3. Both teams played much better than last year and the Alumni really showed some good ball control w/ long, multiple shot, possessions. That said, the current team really took control in the 2nd and early part of the 3rd periods scoring 6 un-answered goals. Justin Cooper found Pat Verdun for what proved to be the final go ahead goal of the game at 4-3. Jr. #4 Max Raynor then scored his first goal of the game beating 2011 All-American Goalie Carter Boggess for the Alumni. Pat Verdun struck again on another un-assisted goal pushing the lead to 6-3. Freshman AJ Chase got in the scoring act for the current team on a nice finish to make the count 7-3. Starting the 2nd half off right was #3 Sr. Captain Wyatt Knight who beat the Alumni keeper Zach Baumann off a failed clear by the Alumni team. Justin Cooper got another assist when he found an open, cutting Pat Verdun who put in his 4th of 5 goals on the day. SOU's All time leading scorer, and current offensive asst. coach, Alex White, answered for the Alumni to stop the bleeding at 9-4. The Alumni would score again when Dan Snell (2 time All-American, PNCLL DMVP) scored a goal playing some short stick. The current team would answer when Raynor scored his 2nd of the game on a feed from Knight. Alex White struck again for the Alumni to make the game 10-6. The current team built on an EMO opportunity as McQuown scored his 2nd of the game pushing the lead to 11-6. So. Attack Tom Halley got into the scoring routine on a nice rip from outside making it 12-6. Dan Snell would answer again for the Alumni followed by another assist from Cooper to Verdun, 13-7 current team. The final two goals were from Raynor and Cooper, w/ time counting down, to make the final 15-7 in favor of the current team. The Alumni team was led by Alex White who had 2 goals and 1 assist. Dan Snell and Kyle Chrisman added in 2 goals a piece while Ty Baumann scored 1 goal also. Freshman Goalie Killian Spicer-Torreblanca did a great job making many saves which included keeping SOU's most dangerous player ever, Jameson Whitehead, scoreless. The current team showed good balance with 7 goal scorers led by Pat Verdun (5g, 0a) and Justin Cooper (2g,3a). Sean McQuown had 2g, 2a, Max Raynor had 3g, Wyatt Knight 1g,1a, Tom Halley 1g, AJ Chase 1g. Thanks to the Alumni for making it back to Ashland and supporting the current team all weekend. You really showed them what it means to be a Raider-Hawk. All of this is for our one an only #43 Scott Charlson who is no longer w/ us!!! WE MISS YOU SCOTTY!!!
