Davis, CA Fall Tourney RecapOct. 17, 2011 The SOU Raiders headed to Davis, CA, this past weekend for a Fall Tournament. SOU took on DVC Lax in our first contest of the fall. DVC controlled the first half via face-off wins, riding, and ball control on offense. Freshman Goalie Killian Spicer-Torreblanca was welcomed to College Lax facing at least 20 shots in the first half. Killian held his own only allowing 4 goals. Grad. student and Captain Pat Verdun scored for the Raiders on a dodge from up top. The score was 4-1 at the half. High School Senior Josh Barnhart (Roseville,CA) took over in goal for the Raiders in the 2nd half and performed well. SOU gave up 5 goals in the 2nd half, mostly in transition, close range shots. Jr. Max Raynor scored for the Raiders on a nice feed from So. Justin Cooper. Final score DVC 9 SOU 2. Next up for the Raiders was the University of Nevada-Reno. SOU started the scoring w/ an unassisted goal by Sr. Captain #11 Sean McQuown, The Freshman got into the scoring act as Pablo Flores-Perez (Sheldon HS) found an open So. Justin Cooper to put the Raiders up 2-0. The Raiders struck again as Pat Verdun buried a feed from Max Raynor making the score 3-0 Raiders. Freshman A.J. Chase (Westminster, MD) found an open Sr. Wyatt Knight to make the score 4-0 Raiders. Nevada would answer w/ a goal of their own off a failed clear making the half-time score 4-1 Raiders. SOU struck first in the 2nd half when McQuown found Chase pushing the lead to 5-1. McQuown then scored unassisted, 6-1 Raiders. Sr. Joey Moseanko picked up a GB on the defensive end of the field finding a wide open Avery Dominguez, a High School Sr. from San Diego who came up to play w/ the Raiders, who found an open Sophmore Tom Halley making the score 7-1. Freshman Jeff Musal (Santa Cruz, CA) scored next on a feed from McQuown. The Freshman finished off the scoring for the Raiders as Musal found a cutting Flores-Perez to make the score 9-1. UNR would add one more to make the final 9-2 in favor of the Raiders. In the third scrimmage of the day SOU took on the host UC-Davis Aggies. SOU struck first on an unassisted goal from Verdun. The rest of the scrimmage belonged to the Aggies as SOU missed on numerous opportunities while Davis capitalized. SOU was down 3-1 at the half and ended up losing 7-1. Overall it was a great first fall event for the 2011-2012 Raiders. SOU would like to thank all of the High School Seniors that came out to play w/ us and we hope to see you in Ashland, OR next season. SOU followed up the day w/ a team trip to the Six Flags Amusement Park in Vacaville, CA. It was a great way to end the weekend. Next up is the Willamette Fall Tournament in Salem, OR, on 10/29 where the Raiders will take on the Univ. of Portland, Pacific Lutheran Univ., Willamette Univ., and Humboldt St.
