SOU finally hosted a team when the Colorado School of Mines came to Ashland on Friday.    The Raiders 7th game of their 2011 season marked their first home game and the Raiders came out hot.  Captain #11 McQuown picked up the opening face-off GB and scored using a long stick.  #11 would strike again just two minutes later on a big time rip from 15 yards out.  #4 Max Raynor would follow that goal up w/ a nice shot of his own to make it a quick 3-0 SOU lead.  Mines was able to get some good offensive looks as the Raiders went two men down but our defense held.  SOU seemed to relax a little too much after jumping out to the quick lead giving up two goals in the last minute of the first qt. making the score 3-2 after one.

Penalities really hurt the Raiders as we were flagged six times in the first half while Mines played penalty free.  Mines tied the score at 3 w/ an EMO goal by #22.  The would be the last time the game was tied as two SOU players really took over starting w/ a MDD goal by #42 Moseanko.  After a timeout the Raiders executed their offense well w/ #42 scoring again on a nice feed from #3 Wyatt Knight. Captain #2 Patrick Verdun would score next for SOU on a straight hustle play.  #42 struck again willing himself to the goal running through 3 Mines players and burying past the goalie from just about 3 yards out.  #2 Verdun ended the scoring in the half on another unassisted goal making the Raiders lead 8-3 at the half.

The scoring pace slowed dramatically in the 2nd half.  #42 Moseanko would strike again for the Raiders fed by #4 Raynor to push the SOU lead to 9-3 in the third.  Mines answered on a nice dodge from up top by #10 making the score 9-4 going into the final qt.

#10 for Mines would score again midway through the 4th to cut SOU's lead to 9-5.  #2 Verdun had the final goal of the game after clearing the ball and pushing straight down the middle of Mines defense.

Shots in the game were even as both teams took 32.  #7 Carter Boggess continued his stellar play in goal recording 15 saves while only allowing 5 goals.  Our MDD unit was solid again only allowing 1 goal on 7 attempts, one of which we were 2 men down.

The Raiders continue to show tremendous heart only playing w/ one sub for the game.  Freshman midfielder #22 Nick Perry started on close defense for the Raiders due to injuries and absences.  Nick showed he was up to the task playing very well all game.

Game ball to #42 Moseanko who really sparked the Raider's dominant 2nd qt. which proved to be the difference in the game.

SOU will host San Jose St. this Saturday at 3pm.  With the win SOU improves to 4-3 on the year.

Thanks to Mines for making the long trip out west and best of luck for the rest of your season.
