SOU took on the #19 St. Mary's Gaels on Saturday in Redding, CA.    It was a great weekend of Lacrosse in Redding, CA w/ over 30 teams participating including U-13, U-15, JV, and HS Varsity.  The main event was St. Mary's vs. SOU Saturday night and the game was not a let down for the fans.

St. Mary's struck first as their LSM #16 scored quickly on a nice high bounce shot.  SOU would answer on their next possession w/ a beautiful off-hip shot by #4 Max Reynor.  The rest of the half was up and down with a lot of sloppy play by the Raiders.  St. Mary's capitalized on the SOU mistakes outscoring the Raiders 7-2.  The first three SMC goals were by their long poles, 2 for #16 and one for close-D #27.

Although the score was 7-2 at the half SOU had one 5 of 9 f/o's, had 16 GB's to SMC's 14, but was outshot w/ SMC having 11 shots on cage to only 8 for SOU.

The Raiders showed their character by not hanging their heads or giving up.  SOU only allowed 1 goal in the 2nd half and that was while we were down 2 men.  Our MDD was great not giving up a goal other than that one while facing many MDD situations going 4/4 until that goal.

SOU was down 8-4 going into the 4th but the momentum had definitely shifted to the Raiders.  SOU showed tremendous heart and determination scoring 3 goals in the 4th.  Six SOU players scored their 7 goals on the night.  SOU had a chance to tie the game w/ :55 to go in the game SMC was penalized for a 1 min non-releasable hit.  SOU got a couple of decent looks at the cage but couldn't find the business end of the net.  On a rebound from a SOU shot multiple flags flew, SMC gained possession, followed by a whistle and then the horn.  The refs called the game over and then gave SMC a 3 min non-releasable penalty and a 2 min non-releasable penalty.  It was hectic and confusing as the horn sounded after the whistle and flags.  The refs finally called the game.

Even though SOU lost they showed a dramatic improvement from previous games this season.  Highlights include Sr. #14 Nate Gregg winning every F/O he took, 6 goal scorers on 7 goals, MDD only giving up one goal although being man down 8 times, and the heart/ refusal to quit attitude displayed by SOU.

SOU looks to build on this game against Whitman Saturday 3/12 in Hillsboro, OR.
