SOU played our first league game of the season on the road at the College of Idaho on Sunday.

The game started out fast as C of I scored the first goal on their first shot.  Sophmore middie #4 Max Reynor won the ensuing face-off clean, pushed the ball, and scored on a well placed off-hip shot to tie the game.  SOU did not give up the lead from there.  Freshman #5 Erik Main scored his first career goal on a nice feed from Sr. Attack #1 Ty Baumann.  Ty would score our next two goals unassisted on solid individual dodges.  Ty then hit freshman #22 Tom Halley for his first goal of the game .  Our scoring was rounded out as Jr. Captain #11 Sean McQuown scored a nice left handed goal on a feed from #5.  C of I scored one more in the first to make the score 6-2 after the 1st.

The scoring slowed down as C of I's goalie made some really great saves in the 2nd.  SOU put 8 of our 9 shots on cage in the qt. but C of I's goalie stopped 6 of those 8.  The two that SOU put in were scored by #22 on EMO with #11 getting the assist.  Our other goal came as Jr. midfielder #3 Stephen Davenport made an aggressive dodge, drew the slide, and found the open man #6 Sr. Captain Bubba VanEgdom.   C of I was held to only two shots on cage in the qt. but they put one of those in to make the score 8-3 at the half.

SOU would continue to control the tempo of the game by controlling the face-offs and forcing turnovers on C of I's clearing attempts.  SOU outshot C of I 15-2 in the 3rd but only put 8 of those on cage.  #3 Davenport made a good dodge from up top and buried the shot for our first goal of the 3rd.  Our other tally came on EMO as #11 McQuown found #22 Halley again.  C of I was able to put one in to make the score 10-4 going into the 4th.

The 4th started w/ Sr. defensive captain #17 Joe Robert pushing the ball upfield in transition feeding Freshman attack #8 Andrew McKay for the goal.  Freshman attack #50 Kolby McKneal scored his first goal in college later in the 4th.  SOU's final goal came as #3 Davenport found #11 McQuown.  C of I was able to score 2 in the 4th to make the final score 13-6.

Sr. Goalie #13 Greg Morelli gets the win.  This was a great game that allowed SOU to get all of our middies equal playing time and our 2nd attack line lots of action.

SOU improves to 3-3 on the season and takes on PLU next Sunday in Tacoma, WA.

The coach of C of I Matt Gier has that program going in the right direction for sure.  In our time in the League I don't think they have ever actually had a dedicated coach until he stopped playing and starting coaching.  With this team being as young as they are they will only get better.

Thanks for hosting all weekend!
