SOU took on Western Washington at Salem, OR in a neutral site game on Saturday.

The first qt. was a defensive battle as the only goal came just a couple minutes in scored by WWU on an EMO opportunity.  SOU missed some great chances in the first and WWU's goalie made a couple of nice saves.  SOU goalie Carter Boggess #7 recorded 5 saves in the first to keep us in the game.

The second qt. was an absolute disaster for SOU as we gave up 5 goals.  We got many good looks but our shot placement was just off on this day.  We got a 2 man up situation on our 2nd possession of the qt. but we forced a pass to a covered player causing a TO and WWU was able to kill the penalty.  On our next possession we had three good looks at the cage but didn't put one of them on cage which really hurt.  WWU capatilized on their opportunities with good off ball movement and shot placement for 4 of their goals.  Their 5th goal came off of a good slide by us checking the ball away from the crease man being passed to but unfortunately for us the ball bounced straight to a WWU player in front of the goal who put in the easy lay-up.

WWU scored again quickly to start the 2nd half on a good goal in transition to go up 7-0.  SOU finally got on the board w/ an EMO goal by #11 Sean McQuown.  We scored on our next EMO opp. to make the score 7-2.   A mental error led to an easy WWU goal right in front of the cage making the score 8-2 going into the 4th.

We scored the first goal of the 4th to make the game 8-3 giving us some hope.  Unfortunately for us we made another poor decision on a clear and they scored in transition to increase the lead to 9-3.  We would score the next goal to make it 9-4.  WWU would put in the final 2 goals on some mental mistakes by us.

We did some things well winning 13 of 19 face-offs, keeping the GB battle even, and riding well.  Our un-forced TO's and poor shot placement really hurt us.  These are things that we can and will improve on.  Credit has to go to WWU's defense as they really made us work hard for every look that we got.  It was easy to see why Extine is a 2 time All-American and I think Whitehead is a really solid pole also.

Next up is Westminster!
