SOU Loses Home Opener to UC-Davis 6-4Feb. 17, 2010 SOU hosted Div. 1 UC-Davis this past Saturday to kick off our 2010 season. UC-Davis started the game off w/ a solid first possession getting a quality shot on cage. Jr. Goaltender #7 Carter Boggess made the save but the rebound went straight to #16 from Davis who put in the easy rebound just 2:22 into the game. SOU was able to keep Davis from scoring for the remainder of the 1st quarter. SOU's sophmore midfielder #2 Patrick Verdun would tie the game on an EMO play 8:38 into the game. Freshman #22 Tom Halley (Wilson HS) would tally his first collegiate point w/ 3:28 to go in the first to give SOU the lead. The second quarter was dominated by Davis as they only allowed 4 SOU shots on goal during the qt. UC-D's goalie answered the challenge stopping each of the four shots, one being a 1:1 on EMO, and one being a well placed off-hip shot by LSM #9 Landon Spady. Davis was able to put an EMO goal in by #22 and #16 scored another to take a half time lead of 3-2. Davis pushed their lead to 4-2 w/ a goal halfway through the third qt. #22 Tom Halley answered for SOU w/ a serious rip from up top to end the qt. with Davis leading 4-3. SOU was able to tie the game in the 4th on a goal by Sr. #1 Ty Baumann halfway through the period. The game remained 4-4 until Davis scored on a nice set play w/ 3:19 to go in the game. SOU was able to get the ball on offense and called a timeout to set up a play. SOU was able to get a solid possession but was unable to get one past the Davis goalie. Davis scored the final goal of the game with 35 seconds to go as SOU had our goalie out of the cage doubling the ball. Jr. Goalie #7 Carter Boggess had a stellar performance returning to the cage for the Raiders recording 16 saves and holding Davis to only 4 goals on set 6v.6 play. SOU hosts Humboldt St. (WCLL-D2) this Saturday at 1pm.
