SOU loses heartbreaker in 2 OTMar. 16, 2009 SOU fell to top 25 Cal St. Fullerton Sunday in Salem, OR 11-10 in 2 OT. Both teams traded goals in the first quarter w/ SOU leading 4-3 after one. SOU scored the first two goals in the 2nd to go up 6-3. We then scored what appeared to be a goal only to have it waived off for a crease violation. At this point the momentum truly swung as Fullerton went on a 6-0 run to end the half. SOU came out fired up for the 2nd half limiting Fullerton to only 1 goal the entire half. Unfortunately we only scored 4 so the game went into OT. In the first OT we had what appeared to be the game winning goal as Alex White made a nice move to the cage and put the ball in the net. The Umpire called it a goal but the Field Judge waived it off calling a crease violation. Neither team could capitalize w/ both goalies making some big time saves so the game went into second OT. Both teams got some quality possessions in the 2nd OT but could not score as the goalies and defenses came up big. With time running out in the 2nd OT #22 caught the ball, ran to his right, and shot high off-stick to win the game. SOU was led by Jr. attack #1 Tyler Baumann who put in 6 goals despite playing on an injured leg. #6 Bubba VanEgdom continued his winning ways at the f/o X taking 17 of his 23 draws. Backup Goalie #13 Greg Morelli played well making some crucial saves keeping us in the game. #18 Jack Pfeiffer did a great job containing the nations leading scorer from Fullerton #27 Mike Ansel holding him to only 2 goals. Great game Fullerton. Here's to you Scotty!
