SOU wins in OT to remain UndefeatedMar. 10, 2009 SOU defeated the University of Puget Sound Sunday 6-5 in an OT thriller. SOU scored what appeared to be the first goal of the game under 2 minutes in only to have it waived off for an illegal stick. We were man down for 3 minutes (non-releasable) and our MDD only gave up one goal. We could not find any offensive rythym as we had many more penalities in the first half including another non-releasable foul for 2 minutes. Our defense did their job limiting UPS to only 3 first half goals despite being man down so often. It seemed to be one of those days where nothing truly goes right. We scored for UPS as one of our d-men flipped the ball to our goalie but really flipped the ball into our own cage for a UPS goal (don't know how that gets recorded). We controlled time-of-possession but could not find the goal as most of our shots weren't on the cage. We managed to shut UPS out in the 3rd and tied the game at 3 going into the 4th. We took the lead 4-3 but UPS answered to make it 4-4. We re-gained the lead 5-4 and looked to have the game won w/ possession and under 2 minutes to go. UPS had other plans as they forced a TO and scored w/ less than 30 seconds to go in the game. In OT we got the ball first but had an un-forced TO. UPS had a quality possession w/ their best shooter #14 getting free in the middle of the field 10 yards out but our back-up goalie #13 Greg Morelli made a fantastic save. #3 Stephen Davenport cleared the ball, led a break, and dished the ball to #6 for the game winning goal. Hats off to UPS for one heck of a battle. Game ball goes to #17 Big Joe Robert for playing solid D and clearing the ball exceptionally well. Here's to you #43 Scott Charlson!! This year is for you!
