SOU moves to 5-0 on the seasonMar. 3, 2009 SOU defeated MCLA newcomer UC Merced 23-2 Saturday night in Reno. SOU showed our depth and experience dismantling the first year team Merced. SOU had 13 of our 17 dressed players score goals. #40 Brandon Thomas, #37 Matt Kegel, and #21 Chris Bodnar scored their first collegiate goals. Game ball went to freshman #9 Wyatt Knight who scored 1 goal and dished out 3 assists. Wyatt played attack in highschool and had no experience playing defense before this season. You would not have guessed it on saturday as he slid for body knocking a couple of guys down, cleared the ball, played w/ intensity, and won many GB's. Freshman #42 Joey Moseanko got to play in goal for the 2nd half and recorded a shut out. Our backup goalie #13 Greg Morelli got the start again as #29 Zach Baumann is still injured. Greg recorded 4 saves while giving up two goals, one of which was my fault due to calling off a certain defensive scheme while in the middle of it. We dominated the face-off x again taking 20 of 29 total draws. # 6 Bubba VanEgdom went 7 for 7 at the X. Merced was a GREAT group of guys. If they keep up the energy and attitude that they displayed they will be competitive in the next couple of years. SOU hosts PLU and UPS this weekend. Here's to you Scotty!!!
