SOU moves to 3-0 on the yearFeb. 22, 2009 SOU defeated Humboldt St. 13-4 today to move to 3-0 on the year. In a penalty-ridden game (15 for SOU, 13 for Humboldt) SOU was able to prevail. The score was 3-2 after the first period even though we controlled the ball and had many shots on goal. Humboldts' goalie ended the day w/ 22 saves and some of them were absolutely phenomenal! With the score 3-2 SOU went on a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach. Our team D was solid today only allowing 1 goal that was not scored from a Humboldt EMO situation. #6 Bubba VanEgdom dominated the face-off X again winning 8 of 10 draws. Our freshman attack man #9 Wyatt Knight won 4 of the 6 draws that he took also. Our man-down-defense played very well holding Humboldt to only 3 goals on 13 attempts. Tragedy struck as we lost captain #11 Sean "lump" McQuown in the 4th. He suffered a broken collar-bone and will most likely be out for the rest of the season. Lump is truly a leader for our team, both in practice, and on the field. Hopefully we can play at your intensity!! There is no way to say enough about Humboldt's coach Tony Silvaggio. He e-mailed me before their first trip to PNCLL land last week w/ a scouting report on his own team. In that e-mail he communicated how he lost guys to injury and quitting the team. He then emailed me again to tell me that, after their 23-0 loss to WOU, he convinced some of the guys that quit the team to re-join it. During the fall, Humboldt beat SOU and looked like an extremely solid squad. We are glad that Tony could convince 4 of the guys to re-joining the team and wish him the best in the future as he is truly a class act! SOU travels to Reno, NV, this week to take on WCLL D1 UNR and WCLL D2 UC Merced. Our next home games are Saturday 3/7 at 1pm vs PLU and Sunday 3/8 at noon vs. UPS. It's all about #43 Scotty...here is to you!!
