SOU Wins PNCLL ChampionshipMay. 2, 2016 SOU defeated Gonzaga 10-6 on Sunday to Win their first ever PNCLL Championship! It's been in the making since 2004 when a small group of SOU students decided to start a Lacrosse Team. 12 Seasons later the Raiders are Champions. The Zags would strike first on a Fast Break goal 4 minutes into the game. #22 David Mungeam would score his first goal of the game to tie it up at 1-1. The Zags would answer with 9:29 to go in the qt. to go up 2-1. Both Defenses would lock down the offenses for the remainder of the qt. The Raiders would tie the game at 2-2 on an EMO play as #26 Murphy fed #29 Pregal just 1:04 into the 2nd in what would be the start of 5 goal run which proved to be the difference in the game. #7 Feldman found the back of the net next for the Raiders off a feed from #1 Morris. #22 Mungeam followed that up with an unassisted goal. #7 was at it again scoring on the feed from #29 with 8:09 to go in the half. Just over one minute later #22 would complete the Hat Trick off another feed from #29 to push the lead to 6-2 for the Raiders. The Zags would get one past SOU Goalie #14 Connor Kelley with just 7 seconds to go in the half. Both Goalies stood tall in the 2nd half until #52 Scott Comer bounced one past the Zags goalie to stretch the lead to 7-3 for the Raiders. #57 Wilborn scored with just 3:01 left in the 3rd to make the count 8-3. Gonzaga would catch fire for the remainder of the qt. scoring 3 goals in a minute and a half to make it 8-6 going into the Final qt. The 4th qt. belonged to Sr. Goalie #14 Kelley who recorded 8 saves in the final qt. to secure the Win for the Raiders. #1 Andre Morris would extend the Raiders lead to 9-6 with 3:43 left in the game. #26 Scott Murphy put in the exclamation point goal with just 55 seconds left in the game securing the PNCLL Championship for the Raiders. Game ball went to #14 Connor Kelley who recorded 20 saves in the win. During the Trophy Ceremony SOU learned that Kelley was named the PNCLL Defensive Player of the Year. #23 Taylor Harrison was named the PNCLL Final Four MVP. Coach Mark Brown was named the PNCLL Coach of the Year for a record 4th time. The win secures SOU a spot in the MCLA National Championship Tournament for the first time ever.
