SOU Wins PNCLL South Division Defeating WOU 15-13 on Senior Night!Apr. 24, 2016 The Wolves from Western Oregon University came to Ashland to take on the Raiders Saturday night. Both teams entered the game undefeated in PNCLL South Division play making the game a battle for the South Division Title. Just 25 seconds into the game #1 for WOU scored as he swept left from behind the cage. SOU would answer in less than a minute as #7 Ari Feldman found an open Sr. Captain #26 Scott Murphy to tie the game. #7 Feldman would follow that up 2 minutes later with a goal of his own to put the Raiders up 2-1. Three minutes later Jr. Captain #23 Taylor Harrison led a fast break finding #22 David Mungeam cutting in front of the goal to push the lead to 3-1. The Wolves answered with a fast break goal of their own just a minute later. WOU tied the game up on an EMO goal w/ 5:57 left in the 1st. With 4:20 to go WOU picked up a ground ball in front of their goal only to have #52 Scott Comer floor the player knocking the ball right over the WOU Goalie giving the lead back to SOU 4-3. The Wolves would answer just 28 seconds later as #10 cut and scored a doorstep goal. Jr. Face-off Specialist #6 Harley Humphrey won the ensuing draw, pushing the ball forward to himself and found #29 Spencer Pregal who dodged a defender and buried his shot. Defensemen #5 for WOU tied the game at 5-5 as he pushed the ball off a SOU turnover and no one slid to him. WOU would score again after #52 Comer was flagged for an illegal body check. The score was 6-5 in favor of WOU after the first. The 2nd quarter was all RaiderHawks and proved to be the difference in the game. SOU struck first just under two minutes into the 2nd quarter as #29 Pregal found #7 Feldman off of a set play. With 9:29 to go the pair struck again as #29 found #4 again who ripped the shot past the WOU Goalie. The Wolves only goal of the qt. came 43 seconds later as the Raiders found themselves Man Down again. This would be the last time the game was tied, score was 7-7. The Raiders would capitalize on their own EMO opportunity less than a minute later as #17 Garrett Greenway fed #29 Pregal on a set play. #22 Mungeam would push the lead to 9-7 for the Raiders as #26 Murphy found him cutting in front of the goal again. #26 Murphy would then put his second goal of the game in with 26 seconds to go in the half. With just 5 seconds to go another unusual goal occured as the WOU Goalie made a save but then dropped the ball into his own goal as he was going to make a clearing pass. Halftime score was 11-7 in favor of SOU. Reminiscent of the Ravens v. 49ers Super Bowl in 2015 a lighting gliche occured at Raider Stadium causing an extra long halftime. The Wolves started the 2nd half with possession as they lobbied the refs for a delay of game although the refs had acknowledged that it was a situation obviously not controlled by the SOU Team. WOU would make the most of it scoring just 25 seconds into the half. They would strike again 2 and 1/2 minutes later as they found an open cutter on the crease to make the score 11-9. The Raiders defense locked down the Wolves for the remaining 11:56 of the qt. only allowing one more shot. With just under 5 minutes to go #22 Mungeam found Sr. Captain #57 Ian Wilborn cutting hard from top center burying the goal. With 1:13 left in the qt. #7 Feldman would score his 4th goal of the game to make the score 13-9 going into the final qt. WOU scored twice in the first minute of the 4th to pull within 2 goals. With 10:42 to go WOU pulled to within 1 goal as #27 ripped an off-stick high shot past SOU Goalie #14 Connor Kelley. #57 Wilborn would not be denied as he dodged right, left, and back to his right placing the ball 5 hole past the WOU Goalie. With 3:14 to go the Wolves pulled back to w/n 1 as #2 scored on the doorstep as the Raiders Defense did not slide making the score 14-13. #14 Kelley would have the final say for the Raiders as he made two crucial saves in the waning minutes of the game. #29 Pregal found the business end of the net again putting in the game sealer with 57 seconds left in the game. Final score 15-13 Raiders. Game Ball went to all 7 SOU Seniors on their Senior Night; #52 Scott Comer #3 Dirk Davidson #39 Josh Barnhart #14 Connor Kelley #26 Scott Murphy #57 Ian Wilborn and #31 Killian Spicer-Torreblanca played their last game in Raider Stadium and made sure it was one they will never forget! SOU finishes the regular season with an 11-2 record and a PNCLL South Title. The win earned the Raiders a first round bye in the PNCLL Playoffs next weekend in Boise,ID. The Raiders will take on the Winner of the Quarter-Final game between the College of Idaho and Western Washington University. The game will be on Saturday time is TBD.
