SOU Goes 2-1 on Spring Break to Improve to 9-2 OverallMar. 31, 2014 SOU headed South for Spring Break taking on Pacific, Occidental, and UC-San Diego. SOU defeated Pacific in Stockton, CA 17-3 to start Spring Break off on Tuesday. From there SOU headed to LA to take on Occidental College. SOU started off very flat falling behind 4-0 early. SOU fought back to tie the game at 7-7 but then Oxy went on a run. Final score was 16-12. SOU went down to San Diego to take on UC-San Diego, a team who previously beat Occidental by 3 goals this season and lost by 2 to a very strong Fullerton squad, leaving SOU w/ a shot at redemption and a quality win. Sr. #13 Tom Halley scored SOU's first 5 goals as a battle ensued tied 3-3 at the half. UCSD took their first and only lead of the game to begin the 2nd half. After Halley scored his last 2 of the game it was the young guns turn for SOU as Fr. #3 Dirk Davidson scored on his only shot of the game to put the Raiders up 6-4. Fr. midfielder #6 Harley Humphrey had to take over all of the F/O work as So. #11 Alex Smith was out all trip w/ an injury. After UCSD pulled to w/n 1 goal at 6-5 Harley scored next for SOU which was quickly answered by UCSD making the game 7-6. Harley answered again scoring on both of his only two shots in the game to put the Raiders up 8-6. As Coach Doty stated "that kid is a winner!" Sophmore #26 Scott Murphy finished the Tritons off on his only shot of the game coming from a nice feed from #57 Ian Wilborn to make the final 9-6 Raiders. Gutsy performance by the Raiders once again rebounding from a loss to win a close game in the 4th quarter, this time 800 miles from home. Game ball goes to #13 Tom Halley. Next up for the Raiders is a much needed w/e off before traveling to Caldwell, ID and Walla Walla, WA to take on two PNCLL D2 South opponents; College of Idaho and Whitman College.
