Broncos go 2-0 on the Weekend

Santa Clara went 2-0 this weekend after securing wins against #15 Michigan State at home and #19 Chico State on the road.  On Friday, the Broncos opened with an 8-1 halftime lead versus the visiting Michigan State Spartans.  They would extend their lead to 11-1 before the Spartans stopped the barrage of goals to make it a 15-5 final.  The Spartans were in California for the Western States tournament hosted by Stanford University.

On Saturday, the Broncos traveled north to visit rival Chico State.  They would return with an 18-9 victory and guaranteed spot in the WWLL playoffs to be played later this month.  The Broncos led by as much as 8-2 in the first half but the Wildcats continued to hang in the game by scoring two late goals to make it an 8-4 halftime lead.  Santa Clara finally broke Chico's hopes midway through the second half with four unanswered goals to take an 18-7 lead.  Sophomore Gracie Binder had a career day scoring 8 separate times and assisting on 3 goals for a total of 11 points.  Gracie is the first Santa Clara player to record either 8 goals and or 11 points in a single game.

Santa Clara improves to 13-3 on the season and will host #3 Cal Poly this Saturday for the #1 spot in the WWLL North.
