Nationals Championship GameMay. 15, 2004 The name won't change off the US Lacrosse Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates National Championship trophy for a fourth year in a row as the 2nd seed Cal Poly Mustangs defeated 8th seed Santa Clara 15-4 this afternoon. Cal Poly is the only champion the US Lacrosse WDIA Tournament has ever had since the tournament is only four-years-old. The Mustangs came out of the gate quick and scored the game's first four goals and never looked back. Cal Poly built a 10-3 lead going into halftime. The Mustang defense led by 2004 National and Defensive Player of the Year Lindsay Kanewischer clamped down on the Santa Clara offense and held them to only one goal in the second half. Santa Clara, who was making their first appearance in the US Lacrosse WDIA Tournament, couldn't get much going on offense and had a hard time slowing down the Cal Poly offense; nine different goal scorers. The Broncos took down top-seed Navy and 4th seed Florida to advance to the final game. Sophomore Meryl Rodgers (3 goals, 1 assist) led the Mustang attack. CSTV (College Sports Television) will be airing the US Lacrosse WDIA Championship over Memorial Day Weekend (Saturday, May 29th at 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) with highlights of the championship game and the rest of the women's action from the week.
