BALTIMORE – Six-time defending champion Cal Poly has been selected as the number one seed for the 2007 US Lacrosse Women’s Division Intercollegiate Associates (WDIA) Championship Tournament. The 16-team event will be played May 9-12 in Denver, Colorado, with all games through the semifinals to be played at the new Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The championship game will be played at the University of Denver’s Peter Barton Stadium and televised by tape-delay on CSTV.

Cal Poly earned its ticket to the championship by claiming an automatic berth as champion of the Western Women’s Lacrosse League (WWLL). The Mustangs are 21-0 all-time in the IA Championship and defeated Michigan 12-7 in last year’s final.

Other automatic qualifiers for this year’s event include No. 8 seed Michigan State (WCLL), No. 9 Florida (SEWLL), No. 13 Lindenwood (CPWLL), No. 14 Northeastern (ECWLA) and No. 16 Minnesota (UMWLL).

At-large invitations were awarded to No. 2 Navy, No. 3 UC Santa Barbara, No. 4 Colorado State, No. 5 Michigan, No. 6 Brigham Young, No. 7 Colorado, No. 10 UCLA, No. 11 Georgia, No. 12 Pittsburgh, and No. 15 Oregon.

Cal Poly and Navy are the only teams that have qualified for all seven IA Championship events.
