League Champions!!!

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Apr. 21, 2015

An impressive weekend came to an end as the Santa Clara Broncos headed home from San Diego as the league champions, with an automatic bid to nationals. The Broncos came into the weekend as the #1 seed and started off with a 25-12 win against University of San Diego. The Broncos then went on to defeat the University of Arizona in the semifinals with a solid 15-8 win, which allowed them to advance to the finals against UCLA.

The Broncos came out strong in the final game, ready to establish themselves as the league champs. Their composure and self-discipline allowed them to maintain control of the game, scoring the first two goals and never allowing UCLA to gain the lead. The Bruins put up a tough fight with a strong offense, but with tight defense, poised attack, and crucial goalie saves, the Broncos were able to defeat them 13-8. The Broncos played for each other, both on and off the field, which translated into a well earned victory.

The next two weeks the Broncos are dedicating their time to prepare for nationals, both mentally and physically. The league championship was a huge acomplishment for us and we are ready to put up a hard fight at nationals. It is going to be a very tough tournament, with stiff competition, but we have been working all season for this opportunity.

Along with preparing on the field, we are also working off the field as well. The expenses of getting a team of 24 girls to Virginia Beach can add up pretty quickly, so the Broncos have been selling tanks and cups to fundraise for the team. If you are interested in purchasing any team merchandise, feel free to contact our team fundraising chairs!

On another note, congratulations to Hannah Press for making second team All-League and Brooke Betts, Dana Kilsby, Alexa Robinson, and Maggie Von Massenhausen for making first team All-League. Also, congratulations to Brooke Betts, Dana Kilsby, and Beth Ruder for being selected to the All-Tournament team. We are so proud of all of you! Last, but certainly not least, the Broncos want to give a huge shoutout and congratulations to Coach Paige for being awarded Coach of the Year for the WWLL in her first season as a Bronco!

Rain or Shine it's Bronco Time!
