Inside Lacrosse on the CAA Decision to Ban PSU from Post-Season Tourney

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Sep. 10, 2013

Here is what Geoff Shannon and Matt Kinnear of Inside Lacrosse had to say about the CAA conference electing to ban Penn State from it's 2014 post season tournament, the winner of which gets an AQ to the NCAA tournament:

Geoff Shannon (@Geoff_Shannon)

CAA — I’d understand the conference coaches decision to bar Penn State from participating in this year’s CAA Tournament a whole lot more if the Nittany Lions were making mercenary moves from conference to conference just to build their advantage. Instead though, after a year’s grace, they are headed to their “natural” home in the Big 10. Somehow, the seniors who’ve been a part of the CAA since day one, don’t deserve to play for one more conference title and AQ NCAA tourney chance? Odd is all I’m saying.

Penn State — This move by the CAA to make the Nittany Lions ineligible for the CAA Tournament is a big blow to the Lions' NCAA hopes. They'll need to earn an at-large bid to go to the big dance. As Geoff said, the team's main conference added the sport, so it's not like PSU bolted for something better. I do like Penn State's chances of an at-large overall, and maybe this is some bulletin-board material when they play CAA teams.
